WHAT IS INVOLVED IN THE WORLD DRIVING CHALLENGE?
This is an FEI event, but this year is being run as a Club event, as a trial for next year, when we hope to run it as a listed FEI event.
All the FEI rules will apply, as well as the tests, and the course plan for the Combined Marathon. Please go to https://inside.fei.org/fei/disc/fei-world-challenge/driving and find all the tests and rules here - https://inside.fei.org/fei/disc/fei-world-challenge/driving/season-2024
WHAT DO I WEAR?
Drivers and backstepper/navigators under 18 must wear a body protector at all times. Body protectors for all are strongly encouraged.
Tagged, approved helmets for all on the carriage.
Neat, sun-safe clothing. No shorts. Aprons optional. Jackets optional.
HOW MANY DRIVERS CAN EACH HORSE HAVE?
One, two or three different drivers is allowed. However, it's not about the number of drivers as much as the number of starts any one horse can have on any one day. EA sets this number at THREE phases per horse per day. A Challenge test or a Cones Course counts as ONE start. A Dressage and Cones class counts as TWO starts. So, as an example, a single horse may be entered for three Challenge tests on the same day, in different classes or even the same class, with THREE different drivers. Long reined and walk classes do not count as a start.
WHO IS LOOKING OUT FOR THE HORSES?
SBEG takes a very diligent approach to horse welfare. Each day, a Horse Advocate will be appointed, and their phone number will be displayed at the office.and at the arena entrance. The appointed Horse Advocate reports to the Chief Judge and to the Event Vet, but their main If you notice anything that you think contravenes the interest of a horse, please let them know. All of us must be good horse advocates and put our precious horses first.
