Judge Protocol Sessions for Dressage and Event Riders Sunday 13th September at TEC.
What is a Judge Protocol Session?
Dressage Protocol Sessions give riders the opportunity to improve their dressage test in a non-competition (relaxed!) environment. You ride your test , or part of your test, in front of the judge who gives you immediate feedback and tips on ways to increase your score.
Protocol and the regular DTSZ Training Days, are a great way to prepare for the upcoming season. Competitions, with the opportunity to gain qualifyers for the 2027 State Dressage Champs, will be held in October, November, December and January.
Unlike a riding clinic, these protocol days focus on how to ride the test to gain more marks. After discussion, the judge may ask the rider if they would like to ride some movements again or ride the whole test again. Each rider will have 30 minutes to ride a test and then discuss with the judge how to improve the riding of the test with the view to gaining more marks.
It's also a great opportunity to gain insight into what the judge is looking for - similar to reading the judge score and comments after a competition ride, except that there is an opportunity to repeat movements for further feedback.
Riders might also use them to ride a test at a level they have not yet competed at to get a sense of whether they are ready to step up, without the pressure of competition.
