What is Combined Training?

Combined Training is a two-phase competition, Dressage with a Show jumping Course.

The Dressage and Jumping Tests, which make up a Combined Training Competition must be taken in that order.

You ride the dressage test element of the combined training at your horses nominated level at the SAQ Dressage Spectacular 18th May 2024. The lower level of difficulty of the tests you ride will be counted toward the Combined Training Score. E.g. if you ride Beginner Prep level, Test A and E, then test A will be your combined Training element. If you ride Open Prep level, Test C and Test D, then Test C will be your combined training element.

The Show Jumping element of the Combined Training will be the AM7 Jumping Round at the SAQ Show Jumping Gala on 20th July 2024.

How is Combined Training Scored?

The total score is reached by adding together penalty marks incurred in each test. The winner is the competitor with the lowest total penalty marks.

The dressage percentage is converted into penalty points, this must be subtracted from 100 and multiplied by 1.0. The result, always rounded to one (1) decimal digit, is the score in penalty points for the test.

e.g.  Score 65.43% converts to 34.57 penalties, rounded to one decimal becomes 34.6 penalties.

Then any penalties incurred in the Show jumping phase, including time penalties are added to the dressage penalties. This gives a final combined training score with the lowest number of penalties being the winner.

NB: You must nominate for and participate in both the SAQ Dressage Spectacular on 18th May 2024 and the SAQ Show Jumping Gala on 20th July 2024 to be eligible to nominate for this competition.
