FUN DESENSITISATION CLINIC - starts 8am Sat 10th May ‘25
FORMAT:
Groups of max 4 will have an hour to navigate a variety of challenging obstacles under Kath's guidance to help build confidence, harmony and trust. Kath Evans from Mini All Stars Horsemanship will guide handlers/riders around the course at an easy pace, imparting a wealth of relatable knowledge and skills negotiating all manner of 'scary' obstacles. Importantly, Kath also helps develop improved ground-skills by addressing communication issues that reveal themselves throughout the activity, promoting better safety and willing partnerships.
WHEN / WHERE / WHY:
Held at various times throughout the year on SEG’s fabulous grass arena. A great clinic for anyone at any level, any discipline - especially sensitive horses. From green newbies to experienced competitors, there's always something new to learn and new obstacles every clinic. These aren't all our regular ‘Working Equitation’ obstacles, although they're excellent training for those in the sport.
GROUPS:
Groups may have a combination of handlers on the ground &/or confident riders under saddle. Clinic first-timers are asked to halter lead their horse throughout the activity. Keen riders are still encouraged to lead their horses in hand at the very start to help calm herd energy, then may mount once their horse is clearly relaxed.
BY POPULAR DEMAND:
This clinic includes a dedicated RIDDEN group (max 5) for more confident horses who've attended a prior clinic with Kath. Advanced elements of each obstacle can then be introduced once horses can demonstrate relaxed confidence on soft contact, at a walk.
Tip: Unsure if your horse is ready to navigate obstacles under saddle? Kath suggests if they’re happy to negotiate a particular obstacle at a relaxed pace on a long lead, then consider riding that obstacle.
BONUS:
NO setup or pack-down duties, yay!
FINEPRINT:
- Discounted group fee for SEG mbrs: $25.00 per entrant
- Max 4 per group
- EA approved helmets compulsory for all riders & any juniors on foot
- Riders may use the sand arenas before or after the clinic, space permitting
- Dogs welcome but must remain on lead & outside arenas
- SEG day yards available at no charge
Above all it’ll be FUN!!
