Section Conditions:

Entries close 3.30pm Thursday 18 April 2019 NO late entries accepted

2. Entries from Maryborough may be left at Bottlebrush Crafts, 30 Ferry St, Maryborough on Friday 17 May 2018, 9.30am - 12noon. Entries from Hervey Bay may be left at the Nikenbah School House on Saturday 18 May 2019 9.00am – 12 noon.. NO late entries accepted.

3. Entries must be the bona fide work of one exhibitor and must have been completed in the last 12 months.

4. Entries must have Section / Class entry slip (available on this website) (A&B in one piece, cut on red line, add your name, address and phone number to the back of the (A). 

5. This Section is limited to two entries per exhibitor per class. Each entry must be the work of only one exhibitor.

6. Workshop items are not to be included.

7. Judging will take place on Tuesday 21 May 2019 at 9.30am in the Spinning & Weaving area of Pavilion 1 (formerly Community) at the Showgrounds, Bruce Highway North, Maryborough.

8. Entries may be sold. On an envelope attached to the item, mark "For Sale". Inside include your name, the price and other information as required, including a short description of the article.

9. Entries must remain on display until 8pm Friday 24 May 2019. Entries may be collected from the stewards after 9.00pm Friday 24 May 2018.

10. The Judge's decision is final and no correspondence shall be entered into.

Entry Fees:

Classes 22001 – 22008 $1 per entry (inc GST)

Classes 22009 – 22025 $2 per entry (inc GST)

Classes 22009-22025 Sponsored Prizes

All prize winners will receive a prize from a sponsor, a card and a ribbon.

HANDSPUN NATURAL FIBRES

Skeins must be minimum of 50 grams or 100 metres. A sample of the fibre used and intended use of yarn is to be attached to each skein. Novice spinner must not have won a spinning related prize in any previous show.

Class 22001 HANDSPUN FIBRE - NOVICE

Spun by a novice who has not won a prize in any show, anywhere.

Class 22002 HANDSPUN WOOL

Must be raw fleece, not commercially processed.

Class 22003 HANDSPUN MOHAIR

Must be raw fleece, not commercially processed.  No core spinning allowed.

Class 22004 HANDSPUN ALPACA

Must be raw fleece, not commercially processed.

Class 22005 HANDSPUN FIBRE

Fibre other than wool, mohair or alpaca. May be commercially processed.

Class 22006 NOVELTY HANDSPUN

Fine keeper and core thread may be used. May be commercially processed.

Class 22007 HANDSPUN BLENDED NATURAL FIBRES

Must be blended fibres, not singles of different fibres plied together. Not to be commercially blended. There must be a minimum of three different fibres used.

Class 22008 HANDSPUN COMMERCIALLY PRODUCED TOPS

Any fibres may be used.

The Mary Anderson Memorial Trophy: Is to be awarded to the Champion Skein as per the judge’s decision from classes 22001 - 22008.

 

 

 

 

 

DYEING

Dyeing only is to be judged, therefore commercially spun yarn may be used for classes 22009 and 22010, Skeins must be either 50 grams or 100 metres.

Class 22009 ONE SKEIN OF HAND DYED YARN USING NATURAL DYES

Only natural dyes may be used. Up to three different dye sources may be used.

Class 22010 ONE SKEIN OF HAND DYED YARN USING COMMERCIAL DYES

Only commercial dyes may be used. Up to three different dye colours may be used.

Class 22011 ANY HAND DYED ITEM

Any method of wet dyeing may be used. No painted items are permitted.

The Rosemary Fleming Memorial Trophy

Awarded to winner of Class 22009, 22010 or 22011 at the judge's decision.

 

HANDCRAFTED ITEM

Samples of fibre used must be included.

Class 22012 ANY ITEM CROCHETED

Crocheted from handspun fibre, may be commercially prepared.

Class 22013 ANY GARMENT KNITTED

From handspun natural fibre. Commercially prepared fibre must NOT be used.

The Jean Hoffman Memorial Plaque -

Awarded to winner of Class 22013.

 

Class 22014 AN ACCESSORY KNITTED

Knitted from handspun fibre which may be commercially prepared.

Class 22015 ANY ITEM MADE FROM HANDSPUN MOHAIR

A non-mohair core may be used.

The Betty Egan Memorial Trophy

Awarded to winner of Class 22015.

Class 22016 ANY ITEM USING LACE TECHNIQUES

eg. Crocheting, Knitting, Tatting or Bobbin Lace using suitable ply. Handspun fibre must be used.

Class 22017 ANY ITEM

Any handspun fibre may be used, any technique. 

Class 22018 A RUG

Any handspun fibres may be used. Any technique may be used e.g. knited, crocheted or woven.

WEAVING

Class 22019 ANY WOVEN ITEM

Any item woven, using handspun fibre. Commercially prepared warp may be used. Finish to suit item.

Class 22020 ANY WOVEN ITEM

Any item woven, using Commercial prepared yarn. Finish to suit item.

FELTING

Class 22021 A WET FELTED ITEM

The wet felting technique must be used. No commercial felts to be used.

Class 22022 A NUNO FELTED ITEM

The Nuno felting technique must be used.  Commercial felts may be used.

Class 22023 ANY ITEM USING ANY OTHER FELTING METHOD

Techniques may include fulling, needle felting.

MISCELLANEOUS

Class 22024 WEARABLE ART - CREATIVE DESIGN

A handcrafted wearable item, using any fibres of choice. Any techniques may be used. Item must contain 50% natural fibres either spun or felted.

Class 22025 CHALLENGE ITEM   

Entry must be constructed from at least 50% handspun or natural fibre. Any form of structure may be used to represent the 2019 show theme
