Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3

The Level 1, 2 and 3 Heartland Clinic is the first half of our 6-part series, designed to deepen your understanding of the Equa Lingua Franca (ELF) philosophy developed by Scott Brodie. ELF is a shared language between horse and rider, helping to cultivate clearer communication and mutual respect. 

Level 1: Mastering The Basics – Sunday, 23rd February, 2025
Level 2: Classical Work in Hand – Friday, 28th February, 2025
Level 3: From Ground to Saddle – Sunday, April 13th 2025

All clinics are from 9am to 3pm at Heartland!

Learning Outcomes:

Level 1: Mastering The Basics
Gain and maintain your horse's attention using effective halter techniques. Understanding the importance of position and timing
Cultivating an environment that encourages your horse to learn and respond positively
The concept and application of negative reinforcement, teaching YOU how to apply it in training and with your own horse.

Level 2: Classical Work in Hand
Understanding the action of the bit.
Lateral and vertical flexion, relaxing in the poll.
Flexion vs bend posture of the horse and the importance of it.
Combining aids through work in hand.
Forward into the halt.
What is tempo and the importance of it.

Level 3: From Ground to Saddle
Understand the importance of the seat and working forward out of the seat.
Master the 4 aspects of the aids.
Learn how to combine the aids for effective communication.
Develop lateral bend and flexion under saddle.

By attending these clinics, you will be equipped with the foundational skills needed to progress to the more advanced levels of ELF, including introducing lateral movements, advancement of ELF and achieving elite riding.

Level 4: Introducing the Laterals

Level 6: Elite Riding of "ELF"
