History

The Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre (AELEC) opened in September, 2008 in Tamworth, North Western NSW, Australia.
In the late 1980’s a small number of individuals foresaw the opportunity for growth in the equine and livestock industries and began agitating for improved facilities in Tamworth. This eventually grew to the formation of a working group in 2000, where 38 potential user groups were represented to begin planning what has now become known as the Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre (AELEC) in Tamworth in north west New South Wales, Australia.
AELEC opened September 2008
September 2008 saw the doors open for the first events to be held in the magnificent centre, with the honour of first event going to the Australian Wagyu Beef Association who held a very successful Annual General Meeting.
However, the first real test for the venue came with the 2008 National Cutting Horse Associations’ 35th Futurity. All 478 stables were in use for this massive event which lasted for 9 days, featuring not just the richest cutting events in Australia but entertainment evenings including, trick riders, barrel racing and bull riding.
International recognition
The venue received a big tick of approval from all which was summed up by Mr Russell McCord, Chairman of  Cutting Judges in America, who was here as the guest Judge and commented “I have travelled all over the world judging cutting events, this complex is second to none in the world.
Comments such as this continued as the facility began full operations and in 2009 saw 163 event use days where AELEC catered for 8,451 head of cattle and 4,051 horses.
AELEC has continued its popularity as a temporary home to a myriad of event types including:
  • Showjumping
  • Hacking
  • Dressage
  • Rodeo
  • Campdrafting
  • Team Penning
  • Cutting
  • Ponies
